GATE Exam Pattern and Marking Structure
The subjects of GATE Exam varies across different disciplines. The subjects are divided into two sections.
- General Aptitude (GA): Mandatory for all test papers. It carries 15% of total marks (15 marks) and evaluates Verbal Aptitude, Quantitative Aptitude, Analytical Aptitude, and Spatial Aptitude.
- Core Subject & Mathematics: Accounts for 85% of total marks (85 marks). For engineering disciplines, Engineering Mathematics contributes around 13%, while core subject questions contribute around 72%.
GATE Exam Negative Marking System
- For 1-mark MCQs: 1/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
- For 2-mark MCQs: 2/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
- No Negative Marking: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions do not carry any negative marking.
